TOPIC: New from Little Rock

New from Little Rock 1 year 1 month ago #1

New guy here from Little Rock. Just received my CHCL this week and am finally officially carrying after having put it off for many years. I've lived in LR about 2 years, originally from Texas. Can anyone recommend a good indoor range in the LR area? (one that's good quality and safe but doesn't have overbearing rules)

Welcome to the forum. I shoot at Shoothouse USA in Conway. It is a great place to shoot and take classes.

Welcome and glad you joined us!

+ 1 on what Mustang said, Shoothouse USA is a great place to shoot: Haven't had the chance to take any classes there yet.

That's actually where I took my CC class. I like the place but it's 40 minutes from where I live so it's not real convenient. I'm considering going to Don's in north LR since their range is open till 9pm. Just not sure which ranges in LR are best.

Welcome!

Shoothouse is one of the best in the area. I drive almost an hour to get there myself; even though Dons and other ranges are closer. Not taking time to shoot, practice or train is rather inconvenient to me.

It is necessary to have rules for safety. I don't like some of them, but they are necessary.

Good luck to ya!

Elaborate.. are you getting something out of shooting at Shoothouse that you don't get shooting anywhere else? Just curious. And what I meant about rules was overbearing ones. I had a range in Fort Worth, TX threaten to kick me out for doing a double-tap. They had a "2 seconds between each round" rule which I'd never heard of in my life. I'm sorry but I need to be able to handle my firearm in a rapid fire situation if necessary, but I digress.

I did end up going to Don's today and although it was on a side of town I felt I needed a gun to be in, their range was sufficient and well run.

Tom does not allow a draw from a holster but you can pick it up off the bench and fire. I double and triple all the time. The rules are few but good for safty. Pistol only at this range. the next class I plan to take is the low light-no light. Dons is too far away for me. You can also get a discount if you are leo or military. I'm not dissing others I just like Tom and his range and I want him to be there for a long time.

Jeff, I have trained with Tom in some of the Classes that are offered and others as well there. It is for me and wife a good clean range in a rather quiet area. It is well run without too. The last time I was at the other range, a young black adult was holding a gun sideways and missing a 2 foot by 6 foot paper target 2 yards in front of him. I packed up and left. No need to take myself into a bad area where I need to carry a gun, just to go range shooting.

Every time I have gone to Tom's it's either a empty range or several good shooters there. In such a positive environment you can hone your skills. You cannot draw from holster but when the place is quiet I have taken some... liberties of quick reloads, malfunction clearing and other handgun skills as Tom or other Instructors taught them.

When you take training classes you are allowed to train and are carefully watched. They are no nonsense about it.

There is a 100 yard rifle/shotgun indoor range in Searcy, I use that to learn how to fire a rifle on my own time. They have much more stringent rules and I feel... confined there. It is a well run place (As it should be...)

I take shooting very seriously and enjoy it thoroughly. Even more so when Friends like Mustang and others in the area show up to shoot/train as well.

Amen to that brother. Drop a line when you want to spend some ammo. A bunch of us could meet and use the second room to ourselves.
