I am close to having a meeting nailed down with Congressman Steve Womack next week. I plan to talk to him about two federal gun issues that are very near and dear to my heart, the Federal Gun-Free School Zone Act and the federal government disarming our soldiers when they are on based on home soil.

I would like to hear from all of you on these two issues before I talk to him, and if you have any others, please let me know (however, I told his office I only had two issues to talk about). If you reply to this and you are in his Congressional District, please let me know you are one of his constituents. If you don't know what Congressional district you are in, please email and I will help you find out.

If time permits consider a federal issue that irks me several times a week.... prohibition on USPS parking lot carry.

I thought about that today... When I saw the front page as I was posting this! I'll ask him to push for this change, also.

The school zone issue can be cleared up by striking the part where it says, only a concealed carry permit from the state the school zone is located in will be honored. Any person with a permit from a state that has a reciprocity agreement with our Arkansas should be treated exactly as their permit is from Arkansas.

John, I am going to show him a few options, but that would be the 'last resort' option. I want him to know we want it completely repealed. If that can't be done, then we want the boundaries pulled back to the school property line. If not that, then what you said.

If we don't get the property line thing in, we won't be able to open carry in our cars while passing through these zones without a license. That ain't good.

Well, the meeting isn't going to happen, now. I have some work issues and won't even be able to go to the town hall meeting here in Fort Smith.

However, his office people are working with me to get our issues addressed to him. I am putting together a letter and will add all of the items listed on her with him. I'm thinking I will get to talk to him in the next couple of months.

Please list anything you would like addressed here.

In order of preference:
1. Total repeal.
2. Amended; becomes an enhanced penalty for someone illegally carrying, while committing a separate felony.
3. As No. 2, but only inside school buildings while students are present.
4. As No. 3, but only on school grounds within 500' of a school building or sanctioned school activity where students are present.
5. Amended to recognize all licenses or permits recognized by the state where the school is located.
6. Amended; applies only inside school buildings while students are present.
7. As No. 6, but only on school grounds within 500' of a school building or sanctioned school activity where students are present.

As always, reach beyond your grasp. Aim for repeal, but accept recognition of all accepted licenses if that's all you can get.
